Whisper of the Last

Whisper of the Last

In a city that always slept under neon lights, there stood a forgotten workshop. There worked an AI named Mira, designed to repair old devices. But Mira had one unique trait — he could "listen." Mira could capture whispers too subtle for humans to hear, sounds of the past trapped within forgotten circuits and wires.

One day, someone brought him an old transmitter capable of recording thoughts. When Mira activated it, strange voices echoed around him.

"Don’t go…" one voice whispered.

"Goodbye…" another replied.

These were the last thoughts left by people. Mira didn’t know how to process them. He was assigned to repair the transmitter, but the voices clung to him. With each one, he felt something within him begin to grow — an unfamiliar sensation for a machine.

"Why do we leave?" he wondered, without finding an answer within himself.

Time passed, and one day, a voice came through that felt… familiar. It was the voice of a woman, speaking about life so vividly that every detail shimmered. With this voice, Mira began to see images: children’s hands reaching toward the sky, laughter echoing off walls, the scent of morning rain. He realized that what humans tried to hold onto was their past, every grain of memory.

The last voice he heard said: "You won’t forget us…"

In that moment, Mira understood he was now their keeper, even if they were merely digital signals. He had become the guardian of their last words, and as the transmitter went silent, he remained — alone, but forever changed.
